Iovino Named Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach
GREENSBURG, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg's Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Maria Iovino as the University's new head coach of men's and women's tennis.
"We are very excited to add Maria to our coaching staff," said Director of Athletics Tony Berich. "She closed her playing career as one of the most decorated student-athletes in school history and we know that she will bring that same intensity and work ethic to the tennis program as a coach, as well. Once the position became vacant, Maria was someone that we targeted from the start as an excellent candidate. Her extensive knowledge of the local tennis community and the recruiting ties that she has established will serve her and the program very well in the future."
Iovino served as a student assistant coach for the men's tennis team in 2013 and helped lead the Bobcats to fourth place finish and a berth in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tennis Championships.
Iovino closed her playing career with a sensational senior season by posting an undefeated record in conference play at #1 singles. Iovino compiled an 8-0 record in singles and 6-2 in #1 doubles (with partner Cayla Ray) and helped propel the Bobcats into the AMCC Tennis Championships for the second time in their three year history.
Iovino takes over the helm at Pitt-Greensburg as the women's tennis career leader in both singles and doubles wins.
