Lady Bobcats win third straight, downing Penn State Altoona 2-1

ALTOONA, Pa: Pitt-Greensburg junior Courtney Carroll scored twice to give the Bobcats a 2-1 road victory over Penn State Altoona Tuesday evening.

The victory improves the Bobcats overall record to 7-6-1 and they now have won 3 straight conference games to sit at 3-2-1 in the AMCC.  Penn State Altoona falls to 2-11 on the season and 1-4 in the AMCC.

Carroll opened up the scoring in the 8th minute when she took a pass from teammate Tiffanni Downey and moved in from the left sideline and beat Lions keeper Mackenzie Strubhar to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

Pitt-Greensburg would hold on to that 1-0 lead through the half and until the 72nd minute when Rhi Miller scored on a direct kick for Altoona to tie the game up at 1-1.

Carroll and the Bobcats answered right back just over a minute later to regain the lead.  Sophomore midfielder Alexandra Dimoff sent across to Carroll who then floated a long shot overtop the keeper of the keeper Strubhar, giving the Bobcats the lead back again at 2-1.

UPG goalkeeper Shannon Edwards and the Bobcat defense would tighten up to ensure the victory.  Edwards made 3 of her 5 saves on the day in the final 15 minutes, coming up clutch for the Bobcats down the stretch.

Altoona held an 11-7 advantage in shots for the game while UPG held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Pitt-Greensburg has now won three straight to jump into the thick of the AMCC playoff race.  The Bobcats will look to keep it going this Friday when they travel to Penn State Behrend for a 5pm matchup with the defending champs.
