Pitt-Greensburg loses tough back and forth game against Aurora, 76-71

Bluffton, Ohio:  Pitt-Greensburg women’s hoops lost a hard fought, back and forth game against Aurora University 76-71, Saturday afternoon.

UPG jumped out to a big lead in the first half, leading by as many as 12 points early on.  Aurora used a 9-0 run mid-way through the first half to keep it close and from that point on no team led by more than 6 points the rest of the way. 

Aurora took a 1 point lead into the half but the Bobcats used a strong shooting effort to stay in it.  Sophomore Kayla Dames (Oakdale, PA, Chartiers Valley) scored 5 of her 14 points in the last minute of the game to give the Bobcats a chance.  UPG trailed by 2 with 14 seconds remaining in the game but after Aurora missed a free throw, the Bobcats were unable to secure the rebound and had to foul.  Aurora hit their free throws down the stretch and held on to win by 5. 

UPG shot 41.1% from the field for the game including 50% (7 of 14) from 3 point range.  Sophomore Morgan Biddle (Flinton, PA, Glendale) had a team high 15 points to go along with 7 rebounds.  UPG also got strong performances from a pair of freshmen, Chianti Sivek (Finleyville, PA, Ringgold) and Emily Nelson (New Stanton, PA, Hempfield), who each contributed 11 points.

For her efforts over the weekend, Nelson was named to the All-Tournament team, averaging 12 points and 3.5 assists in the two games.

Pitt-Greensburg will look to get in the win column on Tuesday (Nov 20) as they travel to Pittsburgh, PA to take on Chatham University.  Tip-off is set for 7pm.
