Freshman Carroll records hat trick to lead Pitt-Greensburg 4-1 over Chatham

GREENSBURG, PA-
Courtney Carroll (Irwin, PA, Hempfield) scored three goals and added an assist in her first collegiate contest and Pitt-Greensburg tallied three unanswered goals the knock off Chatham University 4-1 to kick off the 2012 season.
It took Carroll all of 19 minutes to notch her first goal of the afternoon, scoring an unassisted goal off of a strike from 25 yards out. The score would remain 1-0 at the half despite outshooting Chatham 9-1 in the opening stanza.
Chatham would even the score at 1-1 early in the second half. The Cougars were awarded a penalty shot in the 48
th minute. The penalty shot was successful.
The Bobcats dominated from the 48
th minute on scoring three unanswered goals to close out the game. Carroll struck for her second goal, in the 51
st minute as UPG regained the lead just three minutes after letting it slip away.
Carroll then set up
Allaina Kling (New Holland, PA, Garden Spot) who extended the UPG lead to 3-1 in the 73
rd minute, sending a cross to Kling who volleyed the pass into the back of the net.
Pitt-Greensburg put Chatham away for good in the 84
th minute when Carroll earned a hat trick scoring her third goal of the contest.
Starting goalie
Amanda Hydock (Burrell, PA, Burrell)picked up the win in her first collegiate game. The freshman net minder made two saves in 64 minutes before leaving the game with an injury. Sophomore
Gockley, Toni (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin East) filled in for the injured Hydock making two saves to preserve the victory.
Carroll finished the afternoon with seven points (3 goals, 1 assist).
Pitt-Greensburg dominated play outshooting Chatham 18-6 and earned seven corner kicks to the Cougars three.
Head Coach Chuck Wigle picked up his first career collegiate coaching victory.
Pitt-Greensburg will host Waynesburg University on Tuesday, September 4
th at Ridilla Field. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
