GREENSBURG, PA- Tiffanni Downey (Derry, PA, Derry) scored two first half goals and Toni Gockley (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin East) made a career high 12 saves but Pitt-Greensburg gave up two unanswered goals and settled for a 2-2 tie with Bethany College Wednesday evening at Ridilla Field.

Pitt-Greensburg (2-1-2) was heavily outshot, 27-9 but scored on their first two shots of the game.  Downey scored her first goal of the game and second of the season in the 14th minute, an unassisted tally.  She gave UPG a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute when Jenna Biddle (Belle Vernon, PA, Belle Vernon) lofted a free kick into the box that found Downey all alone and beat the Bethany keeper on a low shot inside the left post.

Bethany however would find the back of the cage before half.  With less than two minutes to play before the first half horn, Bethany’s Julie Lindenfelser fired a shot that deflected off a UPG defender which found its way past Gockley to cut the score in half.

Downey who had seven of the Bobcats nine shots had two great chances to provide an insurance goal in the second half but was denied by Bethany’s keeper and the cross bar to keep the score at 2-1.

In the 82nd minute Lindenfelser struck again when she finished a cross from teammate Alaina Heck.

Courtney Carroll (Irwin, PA, Hempfield) narrowly won the game for UPG in the first overtime when she flicked a lofted shot off the finger tips of the Bethany keeper.  The ball then bounced off the crossbar before being corralled by Bethany.

Gockley made 12 stops on the evening including two point blank saves in the overtime period.

Today’s overtime contest mark UPG’s third overtime stint in five games.  The Bobcats are 0-1-2 so far this season when extra time is needed.

Pitt-Greensburg is off until Sunday, September 16th when they will host Washington and Jefferson College at Ridilla Field.  Game time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
