Downey nets fourth goal of the season; Bobcats draw with Franciscan

Box Score GREENSBURG, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg’s women’s soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with Franciscan University after 110 minutes of play, Tuesday afternoon at Ridilla Field.

Pitt-Greensburg (3-3-3, 1-0-1) opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Tiffanni Downey hammered home a shot over the head of the keeper for her fourth goal of the season.  Teammate Courtney Carroll picked up an assist on the play and leads the team with 16 points so far this year.

Pitt-Greensburg controlled play for the majority of the first half, holding a 6-5 shot advantage while hanging on to a 1-0 lead at the half time intermission.

Franciscan turned the tables on the Bobcats in the second half out shooting UPG 11-0, including a 6-1 corner kick advantage.  The Lady Barons finally broke through in the 50th minute when Ashley Ruttencutter diced through the Pitt-Greensburg defense and let a left footed shot loose the found the back of the cage.

However, 110 minutes would not be enough time to break the 1-1 tie as shots where even at 4-4 through the two overtime periods.

Pitt-Greensburg was outshot 21-9 throughout the course of the game but Toni Gockley was up to the task making 10 saves.

The Bobcats have played four overtime games so far this season posting a 0-1-3 record.

UPG will host Hilbert College on Saturday, September 29th at Ridilla Field.  Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
