Lady Bobcats season comes to an end with 3-1 loss to Franciscan

GREENSBURG, Pa:  The Pitt-Greesnsburg women's soccer team was eliminated in the first round of the AMCC tournament on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Franciscan University of Steubenville.

The Barons took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute when Julia Cocozza fired a shot into an open net after a botched save attempt.   Franciscan carried a 1-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the Bobcats 9-5 in the first frame. 

Franciscan's Jordan Byrley made it 2-0 in the 56th minute when she broke past the Bobcat defense and scored on a through ball from Ashley Ruttencutter.  Cocozza added her second goal of the game in the 78th minute on a sliding shot from the top of the box, extending the Baron lead to 3-0. 

UPG's Liz Kelly prevented the shutout, scoring on a penalty kick in the 89th minute, making it a 3-1 final score.

UPG goalkeeper Amanda Hydock (Burrell, PA, Burrell) made 7 saves in goal while junior Cianna Contestabile (North Huntingdon, PA, Norwin) played a solid game, anchoring the Bobcats midfield.

UPG finishes the season at 6-12, and has hosted first round playoff games each of the last two seasons after not winning a single game during the 2011 season.
