Men's Tennis Downs D'Youville
Box Score Buffalo, NY: The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg men's tennis team handed D'Youville College a 6-3 loss to grab their second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win. The win improves the Bobcats to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play as the Spartans fall to 0-5 and 0-2 in the AMCC.
Pitt-Greensburg got the ball rolling during doubles play, securing two victories in three matches. The team of
Anthony Backowski (Harrison City, PA, Penn Trafford) and
Jeremy Niemiec (Scottdale, PA, Southmoreland) continued their winning ways with an 8-2 victory, followed by an
Alex Leonard (Scottdale, PA, Southmoreland) and
Jakob Schafer (New Kensington, PA, Valley) 8-3 triumph.
In singles action the Bobcats recorded wins in spots three through six. The wins came compliments of Backowski, 6-3/6-2,
Doug Smeltzer (Latrobe, PA, Greater Latrobe), 6-0/6-0, Schafer, 1-6/6-2/6-3, and
Jay Sheth (Glenside, PA, Cheltenham ), 6-0/6-0. When all was said and done Pitt-Greensburg cruised to the 6-3 victory.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday, March 24th, 6:00pm at the Greensburg Racquet Club as they host conference foe Penn State Altoona.
