Carroll nets two goals but Bobcats edged by Bethany, 4-2

BETHANY, Wv: Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer got off to a strong first half start but it wasn't enough as Bethany registered 4 unanswered goals to earn a 4-2 victory Tuesday afternoon.
The Bobcats got two first half goals from forward
Courtney Carroll (Irwin, PA, Hempfield) Carroll tallied the first goal of the game just 7 minutes in when a shot from the top left side of the box beat Bethany goalkeeper Cheyann McQuain, giving UPG a 1-0 lead.
Later in the first half, Carroll fired another shot on goal that deflected off the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Her second goal of the game in the 36
th minute gave the Bobcats a 2-0 advantage with less than 10 minutes to go in the half.
With just seconds to go in the first half, the Bisons set up for a free kick and cashed in when Brittany Fullbright scored from 20 yards out, cutting the lead to 2-1 going into the break.
Bethany would ride that momentum into the second half, scoring just 5 minutes into the 2
nd frame to tie the score at 2-2. The Bisons would also get a tiebreaking goal from Sarah London in the 58
th minute to give Bethany the lead for good at 3-2. London would tally her second goal of the game in the 75
th minute to extend the lead to 4-2, where it would remain to the games conclusion.
On the day, the Bisons edged the Bobcats in shots 25-14 as well as corner kicks, 11-3. Carroll's two goals for UPG on Tuesday were her 4
th and 5
th of the season.
Amanda Hydock (Burrell, PA, Burrell) also registered 3 saves in goal for the Bobcats.
Pitt-Greensburg will return home this Saturday (Sep 21) when they host Thiel College in a non-conference contest. Game time at Ridilla Field is set for 3pm.
