Women’s soccer blanked by D’Youville, 3-0
Box Score
GREENSBURG, Pa: Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer was shutout Saturday afternoon by a tough D'Youville Spartans team, 3-0.
Saturday's matchup between Pitt-Greensburg and D'Youville College marked the beginning of conference play in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. A year ago, UPG escaped Buffalo with a 1-0 victory over D'Youville to spark an improbable AMCC run that saw the Bobcats finish in 3
rd place.
Hoping to kick off conference play in similar fashion, UPG fell behind early on Saturday, as the Spartans posted 3 first half goals in building a 3-0 advantage just 25 minutes into the game. In the 20
th minute, DYC's Chole Casero ripped a shot from the top right side of the box that deflected in off the outstretched hands of UPG keeper Amanda Hydock, who dove and nearly made a sensational save.
Leading 1-0, DYC added back to back goals in the 25
th minute, both coming on breakaway runs, to extend the Spartan lead to 3-0 going into halftime.
The Bobcats adjusted nicely at halftime, posting 4 shots in the second half while the defense managed to keep the Spartans off the scoreboard. Unfortunately the Bobcats could not find the back of the net and fell by the final score of 3-0.
Amanda Hydock continued her outstanding play in goal for UPG, making 8 saves and stopping numerous scoring chances. Junior
Tiffanni Downey registered 2 shots on the day while senior
Brittany Jackson and freshman
Shannon Wygonik each also registered a shot.
Pitt-Greensburg will travel to Steubenville, OH on Tuesday (10/1) to take on the Franciscan Barons in an AMCC contest. Game time is set for 3pm.
