Men’s Tennis drops tight match to St. Vincent
Box Score GREENSBURG, PA: The Pitt-Greensburg men's tennis team dropped a closely contested match to visiting St. Vincent College, 5-4 on Wednesday night. The Bobcats pick up their first loss of the season, dropping their record to 3-1 while SVC improves to 3-1.
Head Coach, Maria Iovino would take a 3-0 record into Wednesday night's matchup, but would be missing one thing, #1
David Cenkner (Acme, PA, Mt. Pleasant). Cenkner would be unavailable due to illness, causing a reshuffling of UPG's lineup. The Bobcats would answer the call, and nearly take Wednesday's Route 30 rivalry.
Pitt-Greensburg would take the early advantage after earning two victories in the doubles segment. The pairings of
Tomas Monti/
Anthony Backowski would triumph 8-4 along with
Jeremy Niemiec/
Matt Kimmel who also won by an 8-4 score.
In the single's portion, UPG would get wins from Niemiec (6-0/6-1) in the #3 spot and
Tyler Fox in the #4 (6-3/6-0) in straight sets. #1 Monti almost brought the victory home for Pitt-Greensburg after dropping an outright battle to SVC's
Sean Malone. Monti would come up just short, losing in a tiebreaker after splitting sets (6-2/0-6/(10-7)).
The Bobcats will look to rebound quickly as they travel to Cresson, PA on Saturday for a 4:00 pm conference matchup with Mount Aloysius.
