Lady Bobcats trump Bethany in 2OT, 2-1
Box Score GREENSBURG, Pa: The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team won their first game of the season by defeating Bethany 2-1 in double overtime on Saturday. The Lady Bobcats improve their record to 1-2 while the Bisons drop to 0-3.
UPG would strike first when
Abigail Pasierb (Chambersburg, PA, St. Maria Goretti) buried a pass from
Courtney Carroll (Irwin, PA, Hempfield) in the 19
th minute to give the Lady Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
Bethany would respond five minutes later when McKenna Junkin scored from 40 yards out to even the score at 1-1.
With 15 minutes left in the first half, a lightning strike would delay the game for 45 minutes. Neither team would benefit from the break, as at halftime the score was still knotted at 1.
Bethany's goalkeeper, Cheyann McQuain, would keep Pitt-Greensburg from scoring the go-ahead goal in the second half, making five saves. The score would remain 1-1 going into overtime.
With a steady rain falling,
Camille Hickman (Pittsburgh, PA, Penn Hills) ended the game three minutes into the second overtime period, nailing a 20 yard strike that snuck past McQuain.
Shannon Edwards (Fayetteville, PA, Chambersburg) was the winning goalkeeper for the Lady Bobcats and made five saves on the day.
Pitt-Greensburg is back in action on Tuesday, as they host Chatham University at Ridilla Field. Game time is set for 4:30pm.
