Pitt-Greensburg settles for 1-1 tie with Penn St. Altoona

GREENSBURG, PA: A first-half goal by Pitt-Greensburg's go-to forward Kayleen Schwegler (Aliquippa, PA, Hopewell) would be all the scoring the Bobcats could muster on Tuesday afternoon, as they would settle for a 1-1 tie with Penn State Altoona.

The tie leaves the Bobcats firmly in third place in the AMCC standings at 4-1-1 (5-6-2 overall) with 3 remaining games.  Penn St. Altoona now sits at 2-2-1 and still in the hunt for the AMCC playoffs.

Late in the first half, Schwegler took a thru ball pass from teammate Rachel Steinmark (Effort, PA, Pleasant Valley) and ripped a shot that deflected off PSA keeper Mackenzie Strubhar's outstretched hand and tricked just far enough into the back of the net to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats maintained their one-goal lead until the 59th minute when the Lions would get a goal by Rhi Miller to tie things up at 1-1.

Each team would have chances in regulation, but Strubhar for Altoona and Shannon Edwards (Fayetteville, PA, Chambersburg) for UPG were both stingy in goal, refusing to give up the lead.
The Bobcats applied the most amount of pressure in the 1st overtime period, recording 5 corner kick opportunities, including a breakaway by Schwegler that was stopped by Strubhar, preserving the tie.

Edwards was terrific in goal for the Bobcats, matching Strubhar save for save, collecting 11 total saves for the game for UPG.

Up next for the Bobcats is a big-time AMCC showdown against second-place Penn State Behrend this Saturday in Greensburg.  Kickoff is set for 3:15pm from Ridilla Field.
