BEAVER FALLS, Pa: The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team used the fourth quarter of Saturday's AMCC-PAC matchup to pull away from the Geneva Tornadoes to earn themselves an 80-68 victory. The Bobcats pick up their first win of the season thanks in part to standout performances by senior
Chianti Sivek (Finleyville, PA, Ringgold), 25 points and sophomore
Kelsey Oddis (Lower Burrell, PA, Burrell) who scored 21 points.
The win improves the Bobcats to 1-4 on the season as Geneva falls to 1-3.
After a slow start, UPG would find themselves trailing 20-13 after the first quarter of play.Â
The second would see the Bobcats erase the deficit and take their first lead of the game, 23-22 at the 7:03 mark after an Oddis three-pointer. Geneva would keep things close over the remaining seven and recapture the lead 33-31 with just three seconds left in the quarter. But the Bobcats would answer with a Sivek three as time expired to take a one-point 34-33 advantage into the half.
Pitt-Greensburg came out strong in the first three minutes of the third, starting things off on an 8-2 run to go up seven. The Tornadoes would make things tough for the rest of the quarter and as it came to a close, the Bobcats would hold on to a two-point, 55-53 lead.
UPG would leave no doubt in the fourth, reeling off a 13-2 run spanning the quarter's first 5:25.Â
Emily Nelson (New Stanton, PA, Hempfield) got things started with five points, followed by three straight layups by Oddis. Finally, Sivek would cap things off with a layup of her own to put Pitt-Greensburg up 68-55. Geneva could only get within five points before sending the Bobcats to the line with 2:03 remaining. Pitt-Greensburg answered by going a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe to seal the game at 80-68.
Sivek's 25, a career-high came on 53% shooting from the floor and a perfect 100% (6-6) from the free throw line.  She'd also add a team-high four steals. Oddis also set a career mark with 21 points on 63% shooting while adding a team-high eight rebounds. Nelson would round out the double-digit scorers with 11 while also dishing out seven assists and matching Sivek's thievery with four steals of her own.
Pitt-Greensburg saw improved shooting in the win, converting 45% of their opportunities from the floor and 75% from the line. The Bobcat bench made their presence felt doubling up their counterparts 33-16.
The Bobcats will look to make it two in a row on Monday, November 30
th as Westminster College comes to Chambers Hall for a 7:00pm contest.
