Men’s Tennis enjoys Senior Day sweep of Mount Aloysius
Box Score GREENSBURG, PA: The Pitt-Greensburg men's tennis team celebrated their senior class with a 9-0 whitewash of Mount Aloysius on Sunday.
The win not only sends the seniors out right in their last regular season conference competition but also captures the #4 seed in the upcoming Allegheny Mountain Collegiate playoffs. The Bobcats now sit at 3-3 in AMCC play and 4-5 on the season while the Mounties fall to 1-4 in conference and 3-5 overall.
The sweep began with the double's section of Sunday's matchup.
Jeremy Niemiec (Scottdale, PA, Southmoreland) and
Anthony Backowski (Harrison City, PA, Penn Trafford) would triumph from the #1 spot by an 8-2 score. The #2 pairing of
Tyler Fox (Mt. Pleasant, PA, Southmoreland) and and
Izaak Fulmer-Moffat (Derry, Pa, Derry) and #3 pairing of
Luke Zeleznik (Scottdale, PA, Southmoreland) and
Jakob Schafer (New Kensington, PA, Valley) would then earn victories by identical 8-3 scores.
Pitt-Greensburg would keep things rolling with wins in every match of the singles competition. #1 Niemiec, #2 Backowski, #3 Fox, #4 Schafer, #5 Fulmer-Moffat, and #6 Zeleznik would all earn victories in straight sets.
