Bobcats buried by third quarter Redhawk rally

GREENSBURG, Pa:  The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team would stand toe-to-toe with La Roche for three quarters Wednesday night, but succumb to a third quarter scoring charge by the Redhawks.  The Bobcats would fall 80-47, despite trailing by just two after the first quarter, eight in the second, and outscoring the visitors in the fourth 18-14.  The third quarter would make the difference as LRC put together a damaging 33-4 run.

With the loss Pitt-Greensburg moves to 3-4 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and 5-9 overall while the Redhawks improve their league-leading record to 7-0 and 12-2 on the season.

La Roche would open the game on an 11-3 run spanning the game's first five minutes and 32 seconds.  The Bobcats answered right back, closing out the quarter with an 11-5 run capped by two Lyndy Baer (Hollsopple, PA, Conemaugh Township) free throws to get within two, 16-14.

The Redhawks would strike again to open the second, stretching their lead to 10 at the 3:31 mark.  UPG would hang tough through the rest of the half, cutting the deficit to six points on two occasions, before two LRC foul shots brought us to halftime with the Bobcats trailing 33-25.

At the half, things would look pretty even with both teams converting 37% of their shots and the Bobcats holding an advantage from three 25% to 17%.

A monster third quarter by La Roche would separate the teams, putting the visitors atop a 66-29 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Despite the score, Pitt-Greensburg would battle in the fourth, outscoring LRC 18-14 to bring the final score to 80-47.

Pitt-Greensburg was led by Casey Hamilton's (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) 12 point 15 rebound performance, her second double-double in three games.  Kelsey Oddis (Lower Burrell, PA, Burrell) would also finish in double figures after scoring 10.

Hilbert College travels to Chambers Hall this Saturday, January 16th for a 3:00pm AMCC matchup with the Bobcats.  This weekend also marks UPG's annual SOPA Hoops Saturday.
