Women’s Soccer Falls In Championship Match To Penn State Behrend; Burgunder, Schwegler, Moore Named To All-Tournament Team

ERIE- The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team saw one of its best seasons in school history come to an end as it lost 6-1 to Penn State Behrend in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship game on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Penn State Behrend earns the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament, while Pitt-Greensburg ends the season with a 10-8-2 record and put together one of the best seasons in school history, winning its first semifinal game and appearing in the championship match for the first time.

At the conclusion of Saturday's match, Bri Burgunder, Kayleen Schwegler, and Jessica Moore were each named to the AMCC All-Tournament team.

Burgunder, Schwegler, and Moore all were vital pieces in the Bobcats' success this season as the trio combined for 33 goals, 23 assists, and 87 points. The three players for
Pitt-Greensburg mentioned above accounted for both goals scored in Pitt-Greensburg's 2-0 shutout win over Pitt-Bradford and the lone goal in the championship match. Moore netted both goals in the semifinal win with assists from Schwegler and Burgunder, and it was Burgunder that netted the lone goal for the Bobcats in Saturday's tilt with Behrend.

Pitt-Greensburg put up a valiant fight in its first championship appearance as it went down 1-0 on Alex Bilka's 18th goal in the 28th minute, but with just under five minutes left in the first half, Burgunder took a pass from Rachel Steinmark and buried it into the lower right hand corner of the goal to tie the game at one heading into halftime.

Despite holding a 20-1 advantage in shot attempts, Kaitlyn Watson was one of the best players on the field for either team as she made 10 saves to keep the game tied at one.

However the second half proved to be a different story, as the Lions continued to possess the ball in the Bobcat half of the field and managed to break the game open and claim their sixth championship in a row with a five-goal second half.

Watson played one of her best games in goal and the freshman goalkeeper tied a career-high with 15 saves.

Pitt-Greensburg ends the season with its most wins since it record 13 victories in 2004 and will has a bright future as the Bobcats do not graduate any players from what was one of the best seasons in program history.
