Bobcats finish fourth after close loss at the Mount
Box Score CRESSON, Pa: The Pitt-Greensburg men's tennis team closed conference play with a narrow 5-4 defeat at Mount Aloysius on Sunday.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 3-3 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play and 6-4 on the season. The Mounties also move to 3-3 in the AMCC, but after Sunday's results hold the tie-break advantage, sliding them to the #3 spot while the Bobcats finish fourth.
Mount Aloysius took a slight advantage into single's play after securing wins in two of the three doubles events. The Bobcat win came in the #1 spot with Zachary Pivirotto (Export, PA, Franklin Regional) and Doug Smeltzer (Latrobe, PA, Greater Latrobe) emerging victorious by an 8-6 score.
Pivirotto continued his success during single's play, earning a 7-5, 6-1 triumph in the #1 match. #2 Tyler Fox (Mt. Pleasant, PA, Southmoreland) notched another UPG win, bouncing back from a 2-6 opening set for a 7-5, (6-4) tie-break victory. #4 Izaak Fulmer-Moffat (Derry, Pa, Derry) rounded out the Pitt-Greensburg victories after also dropping the first set, but stormed back for a 6-7, 6-1, (10-5).
The Bobcats enter their fourth straight AMCC Championships this coming Saturday, April 16th. They'll open the semifinals with a 3:30 showdown with #1 seeded Franciscan at the Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, PA.
