GREENSBURG- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and Athletic Director Tony Berich announced that Michael Gentile has been named the Head Men's and Women's Cross Country coach.

"Michael brings a wealth of experience to the cross country programs here at Pitt-Greensburg," said Berich. "He has coached at the NCAA Division II level, the NCAA Division III level, and the high school level. We believe that he will bring the same success to our campus that he has had in each of his previous stops.  We are very excited to have someone with his background join our department and to see him take the programs to the next level."

Gentile comes to Pitt-Greensburg after serving as an Assistant Cross Country and Track Coach at York College of Pennsylvania. At York, Gentile focused on sprints and jumps, as well as serving as the main middle distance coach. In his three seasons with the Spartans, four student-athletes qualified for the NCAA Championships, 15 were named All-Region, and 54 school records were broken.

This past season, Gentile helped the Spartans capture the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championship.

"I've been looking forward to having a chance to put my stamp on a program. I am very excited to get started and make the most of the opportunity I've been given here," commented Gentile. "Our experienced upperclassmen and women, combined with our talented newcomers, will provide great opportunities for learning from each other and for success. I'm looking forward to building the team, as well as helping our student-athletes have a successful and enjoyable collegiate experience. "

Prior to his time at York, Gentile worked at Chestnut Hill College as an Assistant Cross Country and Track and Field Coach. In his time with the Griffins, Gentile coached seven All-Conference athletes and his athletes broke 23 school records. Along with his coaching duties, Gentile worked closely with the school's NCAA compliance offer and athletic academic advisor.

Gentile started his coaching career as the Boys and Girls Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Homer-Center High School. In his time at Homer-Center, Gentile coached four New Balance All-Americans, 15 State Champions, and had runners who broke PA state records in the indoor mile, as well as the 800 and 1600 outdoor records.

Gentile graduated from Westminster College in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in Communications. He also has earned his certificate in elementary and special education from Saint Francis University of Pennsylvania in 2002.

He currently resides in Indiana, PA, with his wife and three sons.
