Women's Soccer Topped At Chatham

PITTSBURGH- The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match to Chatham, 3-1, Tuesday evening at Highmark Stadium.
With the victory, Chatham improves to 3-1 on the season, while Pitt-Greensburg falls to 2-2.

Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to a 1-0 advantage just five minutes into the opening half, as Bri Burgunder received a pass from Tiffany Michalek and buried her shot into the back of the net for her second of the season. The goal for Burgunder was her second of the season, while the assist was Michalek's first as well as the fifth point of the season.

Pitt-Greensburg had a chance to double its lead to 2-0 less than a minute later, but Erika Caldro's attempt narrowly missed the net and the score remained 1-0.

Chatham got the equalizer to tie the score at one on a goal by Julie Bruening in the 17th minute. The Cougars were at it against just six minutes later as Paxton Steffy found the back of the net to put Chatham up 2-1.

Pitt-Greensburg put together four quality scoring opportunities in the opening 45 minutes, but would trail 2-1 heading into the halftime break.

Despite holding a 14-4 advantage in shots, Chatham held just a one goal lead as Kaitlyn Watson recorded seven saves to keep the score a one goal game.

Breanna Oltman pushed the Chatham advantage to 3-1 in the 70th minute, but Pitt-Greensburg would not quit and the continued attack would almost pay off in the 74th minute. Megan Downey put together a great dribbling display in the 74th minute and the freshman managed to get off a quick shot from inside the box that just missed making the score a one goal game, as her shot smacked the post.

Just over a minute later, the Bobcats had the ball in the attacking third and Andi McGinnis fired an attempt on goal that was blocked and Chatham would hold on for the 3-1 victory.

In defeat for Pitt-Greensburg, Watson tied a season-high 11 saves, which included several acrobatic diving saves for the junior goalkeeper.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Thursday, when it takes the trek down Route 30 to face cross-town foe St. Vincent. Thursday's match is set for 4 pm.
