Women's Soccer Clinches 2019 Regular-Season Title With 2-0 Shutout Of Penn State Behrend

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team made history Saturday afternoon, clinching its first-ever regular-season Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Title with a 2-0 shutout over Penn State Behrend.

Pitt-Greensburg wraps up the #1 seed and secures home field advantage throughout the upcoming AMCC Playoffs. The Bobcats receive a bye into the semifinal round of the playoffs, where it will take on the the lowest seed remaining after the quarterfinal round.

Pitt-Greensburg's victory over Behrend was just the third time in program history the Bobcats defeated the Lions and the first win in the series since the 2015 season.

It was Penn State Behrend that continued to pressure the Bobcat defense early in the match and the visitors had a glorious scoring opportunity in the opening 10 minutes, but Lauren Yoder made a great kick save to keep the game scoreless.

The Bobcats would withstand the opening flurry of attacks and took advantage in the 25th minute. The home side put on a great passing display and following a one-touch pass from Ashley Lucas through the Behrend defense, Tiffany Michalek knocked in her 17th of the season to put the Bobcats up 1-0.

Pitt-Greensburg held a slight 7-6 advantage in shot opportunities in the opening stanza and went into the halftime break holding a 1-0 lead.

Coming out of the break, the Lions carried much of the play in the Bobcats zone, but Yoder stood tall in net, making eight second half saves en route to the victory.

Alexsia Barlamas sealed the win for Pitt-Greensburg netting her third goal of the season on a breakaway, which was setup by a great pass through the Lion defense from Michalek.

Yoder stopped a season-high 13 shots to post her 12th shutout of the season and held Behrend without a goal for the first time in its last seven contests.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Tuesday afternoon, hosting La Roche at 3:15 pm for its regular-season finale.
