Women's Soccer Takes Down Behrend To Take Home The 2019 AMCC Title

YOUNGWOOD- The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team captured the 2019 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Title with a 3-2 victory over Penn State Behrend, Saturday afternoon at Westmoreland County Community College.

Pitt-Greensburg wins its first conference title in program history and advances to the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championship. NCAA Tournament First and Second Round competition will take place next Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 16 & 17). The first round opponent for Pitt-Greensburg will be revealed Monday afternoon at 1 pm in a selection show that will be unveiled on ncaa.com.

The Bobcats jumped out to a quick 1-0 advantage on a goal by Allie Grimm, as the junior corralled a cross from Alexsia Barlamas and buried her sixth of the year to put Pitt-Greensburg ahead on the scoreboard.

Behrend would come back and tie the match at one on a goal by Brenna McGuire in the 25th minute.

It looked as if the match would head to halftime all tied at one, but with just over three minutes left in the first period, Erika Caldro put the Bobcats back in front with her first of the year as Pitt-Greensburg would hold a 2-1 advantage at the halftime break.

Pitt-Greensburg continued to hold the momentum in the second half and drew a foul inside the 18-yard box, resulting in a penalty kick opportunity. Ashley Lucas confidently stepped up to take the PK and drilled it past Madi Jones for her 23rd of the season and extended the Greensburg advantage to 3-1.

Payton Porter would get the Lions back within one with a goal in the 77th minute, but the Bobcat defense slammed the door shut, not allowing a Behrend shot over the final 13 minutes of regulation as Pitt-Greensburg would go on to the 3-2 win.

Lauren Yoder stood tall in net for the Bobcats, making five saves in Saturday's championship to earn her 18th win of the season.

The AMCC's top ranked offense was on full display through the 90 minutes as Pitt-Greensburg outshot Behrend 19-11 and totaled nine corner kicks compared to just three for Behrend. The Bobcats defense shined throughout the second period as they held the Lions without a corner kick opportunity after the halftime break.

At the conclusion of Saturday's match, Tiffany Michalek, Lucas, and Yoder were named to the All-Tournament Team.
