Men's Tennis Falls In Spring Opener To W&J

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg men's tennis team lost 8-1 to Washington & Jefferson, in a non-conference match Friday evening at the Greensburg Racquet Club.

W&J jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with wins at all three doubles matches, but the wins did not come easily. The pairing of Turner Price and Vaughn Hunkele battled at #1 doubles, but ultimately would come up short, falling 8-4. Andrew Oden and Francisco Garcia, made things tough in the #3 match, but the Bobcat duo fell 8-4.

Price won his opening set in the top singles match, winning 7-3 in a tiebreak. Nate Wang forced a third set tiebreak with a 6-1 win in set two, and it was Wang who prevailed 10-7 in the third and final set.

The lone win of the match for Pitt-Greensburg came via Garcia in the #6 match. The Bobcat freshman would win the final two sets, after falling in the opening set. Derek Bedillion took the opening stanza 6-2, but Garcia would prevail in the final two sets, 6-0 and 10-3 respectively.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Sunday, March 10, when it hosts Norwich University at 11 am.
