Men's Tennis Drops Tight 5-4 Decision To Penn State Altoona

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg men's tennis team dropped a hard fought 5-4 decision to Penn State Altoona, in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest, Saturday afternoon at the Greensburg Racquet Club. 

Penn State Altoona took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, picking up wins in the #2 and #3 matches. The pairing of Turner Price and Vaughn Hunkele got the Bobcats on the board with an 8-3 victory in the top singles match. The victory for the Bobcat duo is the second-straight win and improves their conference record to 3-1. 

Price made quick work in the top singles match, rolling to a 6-3, 6-0 victory, which improves the freshman's season record for 8-3 as well as a perfect 4-0 mark in AMCC action. 

Hunkele prevailed in the third and final set at #3 singles. Hunkele took the opening set 6-2, but would drop a 6-2 decision in set two., which forced a deciding third set for the point. Ultimately, it was the Pitt-Greensburg junior that came out on top 10-6. 

Terrance Madarish rolled to a 7-5, 6-2 victory at #4 singles, which gave the Bobcats a 4-3 advantage heading into the final two matches. 

Both the #5 and #6 matches were decided in a third-set tiebreaker, but it was the Lions that prevailed and Altoona would hang on for the 5-4 victory. 
Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Thursdya afternoon, playing host to Franciscan at 12:30 pm.
