BUFFALO, NY- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball team traveled to Medaille College on Saturday (Jan. 11) and picked up a 62-55 victory. The Bobcats have now won back-to-back games for the first time this season. UPG kept the Mavericks in search of their first victory of the year (0-14, 0-9), while leveling their conference record at 4-4 and moving to 6-7 overall.
Nadege Durand earned her seventh double-double of the year with a game high 23 points and 13 rebounds. Maddie Sitler netted 12 points, including two three pointers and Shaquoia McCray hauled in 11 rebounds for her second-straight game.
Medaille led for the first 7:19 of the game, but the advantage was never more than four points. Sitler connected on a three pointer to give the Bobcats their first lead of the game (13-12). The deep ball sparked an 8-0 run by UPG over the final 2:26 of the first quarter, which put the score at 18-12 Bobcats after 10 minutes of play.
Pitt-Greensburg continued the run by scoring the first four points of the second quarter to push the lead to double digits (22-12) for the first time in the game. Medaille answered with a jumper, then Sitler made her second three pointer of the night at 6:19 to increase the advantage to 11 for the Bobcats. UPG held a double-figure lead for the rest of the first half and took a 35-22 advantage into halftime.
Medaille came out of the locker room and went on a 7-0 run to start the second half. UPG put a halt to the run at 6:22 in the third quarter, and answered with a 10-2 run of their own over the next 3:11 to go up 14 (45-31).
The Mavericks trimmed the Bobcat advantage to seven, before a layup by Cat Gollihugh in the final seconds of the third quarter made it 47-38 after thirty minutes of play.
The fourth quarter started, similar to the way the third did, with an 8-0 run by Medaille to get within one point of the Bobcats. Durand scored the first points for the Bobcats in the fourth quarter on a jumper at the 3:37 mark. The jumper began a 10-1 run by UPG, pushing the Bobcat lead back to 10 points (57-47) with 1:21 to play. Pitt-Greensburg sank five of their last six free throws in the final minute of the game to clinch the victory.
Maddy Coddington dished out six assists to lead the Bobcats, who assisted on 13 of their 20 made field goals.
Pitt-Greensburg plays their first weekday game in over a month this Wednesday (Jan. 15). Mount Aloysius (2-11, 1-7) will come to Chambers Hall for an 8 pm tip off, as the Bobcats look to make it three wins in a row.
