GREENSBURG, PA- Nadege Durand became the 13th 1,000-point scorer in Pitt-Greensburg history on Saturday, as the University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team took down Alfred State College, 81-60, on Senior Day inside Chambers Hall.
The Bobcats netted 80-plus points for the fourth straight game, as they improve to 16-8 overall and 14-5 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, while the Pioneers fall to 7-16 and 5-12 in the AMCC.
Pitt-Greensburg had six of their eight scorers in double digits. Durand led with 19 points. Cat Gollihugh was 5-for-5 from beyond the arc to tally 15 points, Maddy Coddington and Shaquoia McCray each dropped in 12, Sidney McCully added 11, and Colleen Murphy 10.
McCray led all players on the boards with 19 rebounds, as UPG outrebounded the Pioneers 55-20.
The Bobcats broke out to a 9-2 lead four minutes into the game. A 7-0 run, that was started on a Coddington three followed by back-to-back lay ups by McCray, spearheaded the good start. Alfred State battled back to tie the score at 13 with 2:48 to go in the first frame. UPG scored the next five points and the Pioneers dropped in the last basket of the first quarter, which made it 18-15 after 10 minutes of play.
An 11-0 run by the Bobcats early in the second quarter pushed their lead above double figures for the first time in the game (32-17 at 6:18). McCully paced the run with five points, as the Bobcats were 5-for-6 from the field during the span. Pitt-Greensburg earned their largest advantage of the half on a Coddington three pointer, that put the score at 40-24 at the 2:48 mark of the second quarter.
After the Pioneers made it an 11-point game early in the third quarter, UPG drained three unanswered deep balls, one by McCray and two by Gollihugh, pushing the edge to 20 points for the first time of the game (51-31).
With 2:07 left in the third frame, Durand eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in her Pitt-Greensburg career.
The Bobcats held the Pioneers scoreless for the final 4:55 of the game, as they went on a 10-0 run to close it out and take home the 81-60 win. The ending 21-point advantage was the largest of the game.
Gollihugh led the squad with five assists, as the Bobcats assisted on 19 of their 30 baskets.
Pitt-Greensburg wraps up the regular season on Wednesday at 8 pm with a battle against La Roche College inside Chambers Hall. The Bobcats will look to avenge an overtime loss to the Redhawks back on December 21.
