Women's Soccer Earns Second Conference Championship

GREENSBURG – CHAMPIONS! For the second time in the last three seasons, the Bobcats of Pitt-Greensburg are the women's soccer champions of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The Bobcats defeated the Behrend Lions 3-2 in overtime at Ridilla Field under sunny skies and warm temperatures.
 
The Bobcats were able to get just six shots on goal, but the team made them count. Senior Jenna Conty scored the first goal of the match on a header off the foot of Ashley Lucas. The Bobcats were able to keep the lead for the next 20 minutes, however, a late first-half goal by Trinity Prestash, her first of two on the day, knotted the game at 1 going into half.
 
Once again, the Bobcats were able to take the lead, this time off of a free kick by Ashley Lucas. It seemed like destiny for the Bobcats until the Lions and Prestash snatched it away with less than five minutes left in the match. The Behrend Lions tied the game at two and sent the match into OT.
 
There wasn't any shortage of chances in the first overtime period, but the game remained tied a two after the first ten minutes of extra time. Then just under two minutes into the final frame Maya Wertelet scored on a bouncing ball off of a corner. Logan Jennings got the assist on the game-winning goal.
 
Keeper Hailey Kepner made seven saves and was named to the all-tournament team. Wertelet and Lucas also were named to the All-Tournament Team. The Bobcats will make their second trip to the NCAA Tournament after receiving the AMCC automatic bid. Pitt-Greensburg will find out their opponent and destination on Monday as the Division III women's soccer selection show will take place a 2 PM.
