Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Controls Battle of Route 30;Defeats Saint Vincent for Fifth Consecutive Matchup

LATROBE – It was a game for Westmoreland County bragging rights as the Bobcat women's soccer team traveled east on Route 30 to take on the Bearcats of Saint Vincent. There were plenty of new faces for both sides in this latest edition of the rivalry, however, UPG was able to come out on top for the fifth-straight matchup.

Freshmen Megan Hickey and Maya Wertelet each scored a goal for the Bobcats. Wertelet's tally was the first of her collegiate career. Along with the young Bobcats, senior Alexsia Barlamas also got in in the score sheet, as she found the back of the net in the last minute of the game.

Sophomore Paige John made her second start of the season in goal and went the full 90 for the first time in 2022. This was the second-straight shutout that the Pitt-Greensburg back line and keepers have recorded.

Maybe what is more impressive is that the Bobcats gave up just two shots in the game, one being on goal. Compare that to the 21 shots the Bobcats took, with 12 of those shots being on goal. Hickey was the leader in shots for UPG as she took nine with five of them being on goal.

UPG will continue its road trip on Friday as they trave to Steubenville to take on the Barons of Franciscan. Kickoff will be at 4 PM.
