Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Season Comes to End in Hard-Fought Loss to Behrend

PITTSBURGH – It was well documented, Behrend had the Bobcats number in the first two meetings this season. The Lions defeated the Bobcats by double digits in both games. However, Pitt-Greensburg played one of, if not the best, game of its season in the AMCC semifinals.

In a matchup that seemed to favor the Lions, the Bobcats took a 44-40 lead into the half. Senior Sidney McCully was doing her thing, even while playing with three fouls most of the second quarter. Sophomore Melina Maietta had one of her best all around games of the season.

What may have stood out most was the play of McCully's classmates, the seniors. Ashley Barker hit all five of her three pointers for 15 points, the top scoring output of her Bobcat career. Lizzie Penrose dropped a three in the first half. LeeAnn Harris played solid defense and kept the Behrend Lions off the boards.

The seniors passed the torch to the freshmen who will be the next ones up. Chloe Lukondi had a ten-point, ten rebound double-double with six offensive rebounds. Tiana Moracco worked the post with her sweet left hand finger roll to catch the Behrend posts off guard. Last, but certainly not least, Madison Scalese was a force in the paint. Making life difficult on the Lions one boxout at a time.

The only thing that was missing was the final score. The Bobcats fought and fought, but the Lions offensive game was just too much. In the end, this was Behrend's game to win, but this game will definitely give the Bobcats momentum going into the winter of 2023-2024.
