Women's Soccer Earns Semifinal Win;Secures Championship Bout With Behrend

The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Penn State Altoona on November 6, 2024, at Spartan Stadium in Hempfield Twp, PA.

After conceding an early goal in the 9th minute, Pitt-Greensburg responded with a strong second-half performance. Sarah Tonkovich leveled the score in the 74th minute, converting a penalty kick. Just minutes later, Maya Wertelet found the net off an assist from Reese Walker in the 80th minute, giving the Bobcats the lead.

Pitt-Greensburg dominated offensively, out shooting Penn State Altoona 20-6 with nine shots on goal. Goalkeeper Paige John made two crucial saves to secure the win, while Tonkovich and Wertelet each contributed a goal in a determined comeback effort. The Bobcats will look to carry this momentum into the championship game where they take on No. 1 Penn State Behrend.
