Women's Soccer Battles to the Final Whistle in Physical Matchup Against Penn State Behrend

In a hard-fought and physical contest at Ridilla Field, the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team came up just short in a 1-0 loss to Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats (5-7-2, 2-1-1 AMCC) matched the Lions (7-3-2, 3-0-0 AMCC) in intensity throughout the match, but a second-half goal proved to be the difference in a tightly contested conference showdown.

The lone goal came in the 51st minute when Behrend's Marlene Andrade found the back of the net off an assist from Emily Samluk. Despite the setback, Pitt-Greensburg responded with urgency and nearly equalized moments later when Reese Walker's shot ricocheted off the left post—a near miss that could have dramatically shifted the momentum.

The Bobcats continued to press in the final minutes, earning eight corner kicks on the day—including five in the second half—and generating several scoring chances. Maya Wertelet nearly tied the match in the 89th minute with a low shot on target, but Behrend goalkeeper Riley Morningstar came up with her third save of the game to preserve the shutout.

Defensively, Pitt-Greensburg stood tall against a potent Behrend attack. Goalkeeper Kira Howcroft recorded five saves, including key stops in the final 10 minutes to keep the Bobcats within striking distance. The back line, anchored by Shaylene Ceruti and Hailey Baer, absorbed pressure and limited Behrend to just one goal despite 11 total shots.

The Bobcats will return to action Tuesday as the travel to LaRoche for another AMCC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 4PM.
