Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls Late to Penn State Beaver

Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball battled through three competitive quarters but couldn't overcome a cold shooting stretch in the fourth, falling 62-52 to Penn State Beaver on Friday evening at Beaver Field House.

The Bobcats (0-3) jumped out to an early lead and held a 13-10 advantage after the first quarter behind strong play from Anna Durbin and Tiana Moracco. Pitt-Greensburg extended its lead to eight midway through the second quarter, but Beaver closed the half on a run to take a 29-25 lead into the break.

Pitt-Greensburg responded in the third, shooting 52.6 percent from the floor and outscoring Beaver 21-14 to reclaim a 46-43 lead heading into the final frame. However, the Bobcats went ice cold in the fourth, hitting just 1-of-16 shots as Beaver surged ahead for the win.

Foul trouble played a major role in the outcome, as several Bobcats logged heavy minutes while managing multiple fouls, limiting rotations and aggressiveness down the stretch.

Durbin led the Bobcats with 16 points and seven rebounds, adding five free throws and a three-pointer. Moracco posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Jocelyn Bielak chipped in eight points and four boards. Hailey Bock added six points and eight rebounds.

For Penn State Beaver, Bailey Rieg paced the offense with 18 points, including two three-pointers and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Katie Enderle added 14 points and four steals.

As a team, Pitt-Greensburg shot 30.6 percent from the field and 81.3 percent from the free-throw line, but struggled from deep (1-for-17). The Bobcats dominated the paint with 30 points inside and grabbed 40 rebounds, including 12 offensive boards.

The Bobcat women are on the road again Tuesday as they head to Chatham for a 7pm tip-off.
