Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball opened Monday's matchup at Allegheny with energy and an early lead, but the Bobcats couldn't sustain the momentum in a 71-51 loss at the Wise Center.
Pitt-Greensburg (1-8, 1-2 AMCC) jumped out to a 14-4 advantage in the first quarter behind a hot start from Autumn Matthews, who scored seven of the team's first nine points, including a three-pointer at 8:02 and another at 3:08. A layup by Abby Henise pushed the lead to nine before Allegheny (3-5, 2-0 PAC) closed the gap late in the period. The Bobcats led 16-13 after one.
The second quarter featured back-and-forth action with four ties and five lead changes. Pitt-Greensburg briefly regained the lead at 32-31 on a three-pointer by Jocelyn Bielak with 2:43 left, but Allegheny answered and carried a 35-34 edge into halftime.
The game turned in the third quarter as Allegheny outscored the Bobcats 21-9. Despite another Matthews three-pointer early in the frame, Allegheny's inside presence and transition play created separation. The Gators extended their lead to double digits late in the third and never looked back.
Matthews paced Pitt-Greensburg with 17 points and eight rebounds, hitting three shots from beyond the arc. Bielak added 10 points, five assists, and two steals, while Henise contributed 10 points and six rebounds on an efficient 5-for-6 shooting. GiGi Finch chipped in eight points and four assists.
