Softball Splits in Team's Opening Day of 2025

WINTER HAVEN, FL – The Pitt-Greensburg softball team opened its season at the Diamondplex complex. It split their two games, with Freshman Paige Phillips earning the first pitching win of her collegiate career in game one, with the Bobcats scoring 12 runs and winning by four. Pitt-Greensburg fell to Adrian in game two.

Game One:

The Bobcats started the season with a bang, tallied 18 hits, including three doubles by sophomore Hunter Taylor. Jadyn Davis, Makenzie Lang, and Brenna Altman were three of the six players to have multiple hits. Senior Beatrice Cook started off her senior season with two hits and a key sacrifice bunt to get the Bobcat offense going. Freshman Shelby Cloak had the first two hits of her collegiate career while also driving in two runs.

Phillips toed the rubber for six innings and gave up five earned runs. She threw 57 pitches and was in control from the first throw. Freshman Rebecca Huss also pitched an inning for the Bobcats.

Game Two:

Game Two was difficult for Pitt-Greensburg senior pitcher Melanie Mienke as she faced the Adrian Bulldogs, a nationally ranked team in 2024. Mienke held her own, as only one of Adrian's eight runs was earned, and She struck out two batters.

Cloak had her third hit of the day in game two, while fellow Bobcat freshman Gabriella Grabiak had two of the Bobcats' three hits, including two singles.
