Forward Bella Carroto scored her first collegiate goal in the 83rd minute, but the Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team was unable to overcome a fast start from Penn College, falling 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at UPMC Field.
The Bobcats (2-4-1) were held without a shot in the first half while Penn College (5-0-1) capitalized early, scoring three goals before the break. Defender Sierra Klinger led the Wildcats with a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 15th minute. Ella Garman added a third goal in the 43rd minute to give the hosts a commanding lead.
Pitt-Greensburg responded with a much stronger second half, outshooting Penn College 6-7. Carroto broke through in the 83rd minute, finishing one of the Bobcats' two shots on goal to cut the deficit to two. The goal marked the first of her collegiate career.
Goalkeeper Mia Camps made six saves in 78 minutes of action, keeping the Bobcats within reach during a busy first half. Kira Howcroft started the match and played the opening 12 minutes, being forced to leave the game after taking some hard contact on a save
Abigail Ault led the team with two shots, including one on goal, while Shaylene Ceruti, Sarah Folmer, Gabriella Finch, and Carroto each added one shot apiece.
The Bobcats hit the road again Wednesday as they travel to Stuebenville, OH to take on Franciscan, Kickoff is scheduled for 5pm.Â
