Pitt-Greensburg Drops Season Opener in Extras at Westminster, 3–2

Pitt‑Greensburg fell in its 2026 baseball season opener on Friday afternoon, dropping a 3–2 extra‑inning decision at Westminster after holding a late lead.

The game moved quickly through seven scoreless innings, with junior right‑hander Conner Burkey setting the tone on the mound. Burkey worked 7.1 strong innings, scattering four hits while striking out five and keeping the Titans off the board until the eighth.

The Bobcats finally broke through in the top of the eighth. After a leadoff single from Ben Aftanas, Pitt‑Greensburg came up with a pair of clutch two‑out swings. Colin Solinski doubled to right to plate the game's first run, and Josh Preston followed with a single up the middle to score Solinski and give the Bobcats a 2–0 lead.

Westminster answered in the bottom half, using a single, a hit batter, and a two‑run double by Jsck Strausser to tie the game at 2–2. Both teams were held scoreless in the ninth, sending the season opener to extra innings.

Pitt‑Greensburg threatened early in the 10th, as Aftanas delivered his third hit of the day, but the Bobcats couldn't push him around. In the bottom half, Westminster loaded the bases on a walk and back‑to‑back hit batters. With one out, Braden Zeigler lifted a sacrifice fly to left, bringing home Quinn Marquis with the winning run.

Aftanas finished 3-for-5 to lead Pitt‑Greensburg offensively, while Preston added two hits and an RBI. Solinski chipped in an RBI double. The Bobcats totaled seven hits in the game, while the pitching staff held Westminster to six.

The team is scheduled to return to action Monday at Thiel.
