Bobcats Close Out Florida Trip Against Alfred, Ohio Northern

Pitt-Greensburg wrapped up its Florida trip Friday with a pair of games in Clermont, falling to Alfred in the opener before dropping the finale to Ohio Northern.

Game 1: Alfred 9, Pitt-Greensburg 1

Pitt-Greensburg struck first in the opening inning, but Alfred responded quickly and used a big offensive output to take the first game of the doubleheader, 9-1 in five innings.

The Bobcats manufactured a run in the top of the first. Shelby Cloak worked a walk and stole second before Jessica Dunn was hit by a pitch to put two runners aboard. After both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, Lilly Buckles lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Cloak home and give Pitt-Greensburg a 1-0 lead.

Alfred answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Samantha Vidal tied the game with an inside-the-park home run to spark the rally. The Saxons followed with a Bella Mistretta RBI double to take the lead and added two more runs later in the inning on a sacrifice fly and a run scoring on a Bobcat error to move ahead 4-1.

The Saxons extended the advantage in the second inning when Alexis Martinez tripled to left center to score Vidal, pushing the lead to 5-1.

Pitt-Greensburg threatened in the fourth as Buckles led off the inning with a double to left center, but Alfred retired the next three hitters to keep the Bobcats from cutting into the deficit.

Alfred broke the game open in the fourth. Martinez drove in a run with a double before Molly Whitmyer followed with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 8-1. The Saxons added one more run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to end the contest.

Buckles recorded the Bobcats' lone RBI and a double, while Brenna Altman also added a hit. Autumn Powell tossed 4.2 innings in the circle for Pitt-Greensburg.

Game 2: Ohio Northern 8, Pitt-Greensburg 0

In the second game of the day, Ohio Northern used a pair of early scoring innings to defeat the Bobcats 8-0 in the final game of the Florida trip.

The Polar Bears opened the scoring in the second inning. Avery Neth led off with a double and later scored when Carlie Schroeder doubled to left center. After a passed ball brought another run home, Alyssa Hochstetler delivered an RBI double and later scored on a Bobcat error to cap a four-run frame and give Ohio Northern a 4-0 lead.

Ohio Northern added two more runs in the third inning. Schroeder collected another double before Clare Flory lined a two-run single to right field, stretching the lead to 6-0.

Pitt-Greensburg threatened in the opening inning when Cassidy Kunkel doubled to right field, but the Bobcats were unable to push a run across against Ohio Northern starter Avery Neth.

The Polar Bears added two more runs in the fifth inning, scoring on a Bobcat error before Hochstetler singled home another run to extend the lead to 8-0.

Pitt-Greensburg recorded four hits in the contest, with Kunkel leading the way with two. Keira Rozanski and Gabriella Grabiak each added a hit for the Bobcats, while Nicole Palmer worked five innings in the circle.
