Bobcats Drop Doubleheader to Penn State Behrend

Game 1: Penn State Behrend 3, Pitt-Greensburg 1

Pitt-Greensburg turned in a strong effort in the opener of Saturday's doubleheader but was undone by late-inning runs as Penn State Behrend pulled away for a 3-1 victory.

The Bobcats broke through first in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on timely hitting to grab an early lead. Autumn Powell sparked the inning with a single, and Jessica Dunn followed with a double to center to put two runners in scoring position. Lilly Buckles delivered in the clutch, lining an RBI single to left to bring Powell home for a 1-0 advantage.

From there, Pitt-Greensburg leaned on Powell in the circle, who kept Behrend off the board through five innings. The Bobcats worked out of early traffic, including a key third inning where Behrend threatened with two in scoring position before the defense held firm.

Behrend finally broke through in the sixth, using a Bobcat error to extend the inning before a pinch-hit RBI single tied the game at 1-1.

In the seventh, the Lions capitalized again on defensive miscues. An error to open the inning set the tone, and Behrend strung together timely hits, including a two-run single that gave the visitors a 3-1 lead.

Pitt-Greensburg was unable to respond in the bottom half, as Behrend's pitching closed out the game.

The Bobcats finished with six hits, including doubles from Dunn and Falynn Reinard. Buckles drove in the lone run, while Powell added a hit and scored. Powell was strong in the circle, allowing just one earned run over 6.1 innings with five strikeouts.

Game 2: Penn State Behrend 11, Pitt-Greensburg 4

Pitt-Greensburg showed early resilience in game two, but a six-run sixth inning by Penn State Behrend proved to be the difference in an 11-4 loss.

Behrend struck first with two runs in the opening frame, but the Bobcats answered immediately. Shelby Cloak doubled to lead off the bottom of the first, and Jessica Dunn followed with a single to put runners on the corners. After a stolen base put two in scoring position, Sadie Kelly came through with a two-run single to even the game at 2-2.

The game remained tight through the middle innings. Behrend took a 3-2 lead in the fourth, but Pitt-Greensburg responded again in the bottom half. Brenna Altman singled and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Jadyn Davis, tying the game at 3-3.

Behrend regained the lead in the fifth on a two-run home run, making it 5-3, before breaking the game open in the sixth. The Lions erupted for six runs on a series of hits, including multiple extra-base hits and a three-run homer, stretching the lead to 11-3.

The Bobcats added a run in the bottom of the sixth when Cloak doubled home a run, but could not mount a full comeback.

Cloak led the offense with two doubles, a run scored, and an RBI. Kelly drove in two runs, while Dunn, Reinard, Altman, and Hunter Taylor each contributed hits as Pitt-Greensburg finished with seven total.
