Late-Inning Heroics Lift Pitt-Greensburg to Split with W&J in Monday Doubleheader

Game 1: Pitt-Greensburg 7, Washington & Jefferson 6

Pitt-Greensburg rallied late in dramatic fashion, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off Washington & Jefferson, 7-6, Monday afternoon at home.

The Bobcats answered an early deficit right away. After W&J struck first in the top of the opening inning, Pitt-Greensburg responded in the bottom half as Falynn Reinard delivered an RBI single down the left field line, scoring Jessica Dunn to even the game at 1-1.

Washington & Jefferson regained control in the second, capitalizing on extra-base hits and an error to take a 3-1 lead. Pitt-Greensburg chipped away in the third when Hunter Taylor launched a solo home run to left field, cutting the deficit to one.

The momentum shifted in the fourth inning. With runners in scoring position, Shelby Cloak came through with a clutch two-RBI double to left center, giving Pitt-Greensburg its first lead of the game at 4-3.

The Presidents answered again, tying the game in the fifth before reclaiming the lead in the sixth. They added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly, stretching the advantage to 6-4.

Pitt-Greensburg refused to go quietly.

In the bottom of the seventh, Dunn ignited the rally with a leadoff single, followed by a hit from Taylor. After a single by Kenzie Lang loaded the bases, Reinard delivered again with an RBI single to cut the deficit to one. Moments later, the Bobcats tied the game on a defensive miscue before Autumn Powell sealed the comeback with a walk-off RBI single.

Powell also earned the win in the circle with a complete-game effort. Dunn led the offense with three hits, while Taylor and Reinard each added key multi-hit performances as Pitt-Greensburg totaled 13 hits in the win.

Game 2: Washington & Jefferson 8, Pitt-Greensburg 3

Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to an early lead but could not hold off a steady offensive attack from Washington & Jefferson, falling 8-3 in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Bobcats came out strong in the bottom of the first inning. Sadie Kelly sparked the offense with an RBI double to left field, and Mia Dalessandro followed with an RBI single to give Pitt-Greensburg a quick 2-0 advantage.

Washington & Jefferson responded in the third inning with a three-run rally, using a combination of timely hits to take a 3-2 lead. Pitt-Greensburg answered in the bottom half, tying the game at 3-3 when Dalessandro drove in another run with a groundout after consecutive singles from Keira Rozanski, Brenna Altman, and Kelly.

The game remained tight into the middle innings before Washington & Jefferson took control for good in the fifth. Capitalizing on an error, the Presidents pushed across a go-ahead run to make it 4-3.

W&J added to its lead in the sixth inning, scoring two runs—both unearned—on a key two-RBI single. The Presidents continued to build separation in the seventh, tacking on two more runs with back-to-back extra-base hits to extend the lead to 8-3.

Pitt-Greensburg was unable to generate a late rally, as Washington & Jefferson retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Kelly led the Bobcats offensively with three hits and an RBI, while Altman added two hits. Dalessandro drove in a team-high two runs. Pitt-Greensburg finished with eight hits in the contest.
