Pitt-Greensburg traveled to Lakewood, N.Y. on Tuesday for an AMCC doubleheader against Penn State Behrend, battling throughout both matches against a strong Lions lineup.
Game 1: Penn State Behrend 7, Pitt-Greensburg 0
The Bobcats opened the afternoon against Behrend but were unable to overcome an early deficit, falling 7-0 in the first match.
Behrend set the tone in doubles play, sweeping all three courts to secure the opening point. The No. 1 tandem of Ryan Cole and Michael Opal picked up a game in a 6-1 decision, while the No. 2 and No. 3 pairings were held off in 6-0 matches.
In singles action, Pitt-Greensburg showed resilience across the lineup. Opal led the way at No. 1 singles, competing in each set before falling 6-2, 6-2. Cole, Schiffhauer, and Norris each managed to win games in their respective matches, continuing to battle point-by-point despite the straight-set results.
Behrend ultimately completed the sweep by taking all six singles contests in straight sets.
Game 2: Penn State Behrend 6, Pitt-Greensburg 1
The Bobcats responded with a stronger showing in the second match of the doubleheader, highlighted by a hard-fought singles victory.
Behrend once again jumped ahead in doubles play, claiming wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to secure the doubles point, while the No. 3 match went unfinished.
Pitt-Greensburg found its breakthrough in singles play at the No. 5 position, where Daniel Cipcic delivered a standout performance. After dropping the opening set 6-4, Cipcic rallied to take the second set 6-3 before closing out the match with a 10-7 victory in the deciding tiebreaker. His comeback marked the lone point of the day for the Bobcats.
Elsewhere in the lineup, Cole highlighted a competitive effort at No. 2 singles, picking up three games in the opening set. Schiffhauer and Norris also battled in their matches, continuing to pressure their opponents despite the final scores.
Behrend secured the remaining singles matches to take the second contest 6-1.
The Bobcats close out the regular season Friday as they take on Washington and Jefferson for Senior Day at the Greensburg Racquet Club.Â
