The 2015 season marked the fourth year for Anthony Williams as the Bobcats skipper, having built a scuffling program into a serious conference contender. Hired in the fall of 2011, Williams took over the reins at age 26, making him one of the youngest college baseball head coaches in the country.
In addition to being the Bobcats skipper, Williams has worked in the Video and Advance Scouting department for the Pittsburgh Pirates for four seasons where he has been responsible for helping prepare advance scouting reports and video for the Pirates players, coaches and staff.
In his four seasons at the helm, Williams has led UPG to four consecutive playoff appearances and three 20+ win seasons, highlighted by the program's first ever appearance in the conference title game in 2014. Williams' 2015 squad may have been his best yet, posting a new school record 24 wins, though falling victim to two late inning comebacks to finish 3rd in the AMCC tournament.
After inheriting a program that had never seen a winning season in its 15 year existence, Williams has led the Bobcats to remarkable growth, beginning with its first ever winning season in 2012, with a then-record 21 wins. Bobcat baseball under Coach Williams has gone on to set new school records for victories in 2012 (21), 2014 (22), and 2015 (24).
In his first year as head coach at Pitt-Greensburg, Williams led the Bobcats to their first winning season in program history (21-19), matching the school record for wins. The Bobcats third place finish was a program best and earned them the right to host their first playoff game in school history. One of UPG's 21 wins came against IUP, marking the first time Pitt-Greensburg has defeated an NCAA Division II team.
In 2012, the Bobcats led the AMCC in almost every offensive statistical category including batting average, slugging percentage, runs, rbi, doubles and home runs. Pitt-Greensburg also finished the 2012 season leading all of NCAA Division III in team slugging percentage (.510) and was second in the nation in home runs (37).
During the 2010-2011 season, Williams was an Assistant Baseball Coach at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC, NCAA Division I) in the America East Conference, where he served as the 1st base coach, working primarily with hitters and infielders while also specializing in base running and speed/agility.
From 2008-2010, Williams was the top Assistant Baseball Coach at NCAA Division III Frostburg State University. Williams served as the recruiting coordinator and 1
st base coach, while also specializing in hitting and infield play.
In his two seasons at FSU, Williams helped produce three All-Americans, including Greg Ross, an 18th Round Draft pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2011 . In 2010, Williams helped FSU to 32 wins, en route to capturing the 2010 AMCC Regular Season Championship.
Williams has also previously made stops at the Bowie Baysox, “AA” affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and the Baseball Factory, a national recruiting service for high school players.
Williams played collegiate baseball at NCAA Division II Slippery Rock University (PA) and also played four seasons in the Eddie Brooks Collegiate League.
A native of Pasadena, Maryland and 2003 All State selection out of Northeast High School, Williams helped the Eagles baseball team to the 3A Maryland State Championship in 2001.
Williams earned his MBA from Frostburg State University and holds a BS in Sport Management from Slippery Rock University.
