Hayley Schaetzle recently finished her third season as head coach at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, where she was voted the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year, after guiding the Bobcats to a 17-10 mark and a 14-6 record in AMCC play.

Schaetzle is just the second coach at Pitt-Greensburg to be named AMCC Coach of the Year, joining Carol Gelet (2000-01, 2001-02) as the only two women’s basketball coach at UPG to earn the award.

Schaetzle guided Pitt-Greensburg to its first winning season since 2014-15 and earned the fourth seed in the AMCC postseason tournament. The Bobcats then proceeded to down Penn State Behrend (71-53) to earn a sport in the AMCC Tournament Semifinal round, where they had their season come to an end with a 60-54 loss to top seed La Roche.

Nadege Durand and Shaquoia McCray were selected to the AMCC All-Conference team, earning First Team and Third Team honors respectively. The Bobcat duo ranked third (10.1) and fourth (9.7) in the AMCC in rebounds per game and propelled UPG to rank second as a team in rebounds per contest (46.1). Along with one of the top rebounding duo’s in the league, Pitt-Greensburg also sat a top the AMCC in rebounding margin, posting a 12.2 advantage on the boards per game and were propelled by great performances on the offensive end, leading the conference in offensive boards per game (18.0)

Durand earned her second-straight First Team All-AMCC honor and with a 17-point effort against Alfred State on Senior Day, the junior forward became the 13th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000 point milestone.

Schaetzle guided the Bobcats to success both on and off the court during her second season at the helm. On the court, Pitt-Greensburg posted a winning record inside Chambers Hall, including defeating La Roche for a second-straight season and saw Nadege Durand earn First Team All-AMCC honors, which marks the second-straight year Pitt-Greensburg had a representative selected to the First team.
In her two seasons under Schaetzle's coaching, Durand has already etched her name into the Pitt-Greensburg record books, as she ranks third in both offensive rebounds (256) and defensive rebounds per game (6.9), and is ninth in total rebounds (543).

Outside the basketball court, Pitt-Greensburg once again thrived in the classroom. The Bobcats posted a team GPA of 3.41 and earned the AMCC's Team Peak Performer Award, which signifies the highest cumulative team GPA effective with the close of the Fall 2018 semester, in each championship and showcase sport sponsored by the conference.

In her first season at the helm, Schaetzle immediately made an impact, guiding the Bobcats to a season-sweep of La Roche for the first time since 2008-09, as well as finishing the season on an uphill trajectory winning four of the final six conference competitions.

Under Schaetzle’s guide, Kelsey Oddis put together a tremendous senior season, earning first team All-AMCC honors after setting career-bests in points (19.4) and rebounds (11.4), both of which ranked second in the conference. Oddis set a new single-season school record for points-per-game and also became the 12th player in program history to achieve 1,000 career points.

Not only did the Bobcats thrive on the court under Schaetzle, their hard work also paid off in the classroom, earning the AMCC Team Peak Performer Award for the highest team GPA. The team also was named to the 2017-18 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The Bobcats posted the 19th best GPA in the country and were the sole AMCC representative to earn the award.

Prior to Pitt-Greensburg, Schaetzle served as Director of Basketball Operations at the University at Buffalo for two seasons. As Director of Operations, Schaetzle planned and directed all aspects of team travel, practice time, hotels, transportation, and meals. Her responsibilities included directing team managers and organizing all clock work at practices and shoot-around drills. Schaetzle also served as the academic liaison with the women's basketball academic advisor to achieve a Team GPA exceeding a 3.0 each semester.

In Schaetzle's first season with the UB Bulls, the women's basketball team defeated Central Michigan to capture the school's first Mid-American Conference Championship and advanced to the 2016 NCAA Tournament for the first time in the program's history.

Schaetzle is familiar with the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats and the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) from spending two seasons (2013-2014 and 2014-2015) as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Penn State Behrend, a fellow member of the AMCC. While there, Schaetzle coached the Lions' guards and helped to recruit players and scout opponents—all while working with Roz Fornari, the winningest coach in the Penn State Behrend program's history. When Fornari retired in the 2014 spring semester, Schaetzle was named the Lions' Interim Women's Basketball Head Coach.

Schaetzle played collegiately at Manchester University (formerly Manchester College) in Indiana where she was a varsity letter-winner as a freshman point-guard.

A native of Chico, Ca, Schaetzle graduated magna cum laude from Manchester University with a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science and Fitness with minors in Coaching and Spanish. She earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Penn State Behrend.
