Beran was one above par, at 71, in his first collegiate match to claim the top spot out of 51 golfers at Saturday's Pitt-Bradford Fall Invitational. The freshman was one under par on the front nine with an impressive 34. He sank three birdies, parred 11 holes and bogeyed four. The course featured two par fives and he conquered both with pars. Never getting more than a bogey on a hole, Beran did not take more than five strokes on any hole over the course of the season opening match.
