Volleyball drops two matches on first day of W&J Invitational
Washington, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg opened the first day of the 2012 Washington and Jefferson Invitational with a pair of loses to host Washington and Jefferson and Allegheny College.
In the day’s opening game Pitt-Greensburg dropped a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-15) decision to the host Washington and Jefferson Presidents. The Bobcats were led by
Nika Simonson (Venetia, PA, Peters Township) who earned a team high six kills while teammate
Samantha Meyers (Elizabeth, PA, Elizabeth Forward) was credited with eight assists.
Briana Weakland (Hastings, PA, Cambria Heights) and
Erika Spina (Birdsoro, PA, Danile Boone) finished the contest with 10 digs each while freshman
Rebecca Muha (Central City, PA, Shade Central City)was credited with four blocks.
In UPG’s second match of the day they were once again knocked off 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 26-24) this time to Allegheny College.
Brianna Weakland earned a career high 20 digs in the loss while Simonson finished with 12 kills and Erika Spina handed out 17 assists.
With the two loses the Bobcats fall to 0-8 on the season but will look to get back on track tomorrow as they continue day two of the Washington Jefferson Invitational with matches against Muskingum University and Oberlin College.
