Men's Hoops falls on the road at Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH, Pa: The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team lost to Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon, 85-72, in a non-conference road contest.
After a low scoring first half, the two teams squared off in a second half shoot out, but the deficit was too steep for the Bobcats to overcome. Both teams shot poorly in the first half, with each squad connecting on just 38% from the floor. However 7 of the Tarters 12 field goals in the first half were three point baskets, helping them build a 38-26 halftime lead.
UPG found a better offensive rhythm in the second half, shooting 17-32 (53%) including 5-11 (46%) from three point range. However, Carnegie Mellon also found their shooting touch in the second frame, shooting over 60% from the floor.
The Bobcats also hurt themselves with costly turnovers, a total of 28 in the game, despite outrebounding Carnegie Mellon 35-32 on the afternoon.
Leading the way for UPG was sophomore
Mike Connelly (Butler, PA, St. Joseph), who came off the bench to score a team high 16 points. Junior
Brian Heinle (Brackenridge, PA, St. Joseph) chipped in 15 points to go along with 7 rebounds, while transfer
Marcus Thomas (Uniontown, PA, Uniontown) had a game high 10 rebounds while also posting 5 assists.
The Bobcats fall to 0-3 on the young season, while Carnegie Mellon improves to 2-0. UPG will be off until Dec 4, when they travel to Steubenville, OH to kick off AMCC play against Franciscan University. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
