MEADVILLE, PA:   The Pitt Greensburg baseball team earned a non-conference 5-1 victory over host Allegheny College on Thursday. The Bobcats pulled out the hard fought win that brought their record to 11-15 while Allegheny fell to 16-9.

The Bobcats won this game fueled by solid performances by five different pitchers. They got a solid start out of Jeramy Kopacko (Brownsville, PA, Brownsville) who struck out three and only let in one run over 4.2 innings.  The ball was then given to Matt Kloos (Seven Fields, PA, Seneca Valley), Joe Bon (Pittsburgh, PA, Brashear), Ryan Dandrea (Irwin, PA, Penn-Trafford), and Mike Pearson (Beaver Falls, PA, Blackhawk) for the remaining 4.1 innings. This combination only gave up one hit and continued the great bullpen play that has been the theme of the current run the Bobcats find themselves on.  Bon was credited with the win after 1.2 solid innings of relief.

Pearson got the scoring started in the top of the first when he doubled in Steven Anderson (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) to bring the game to 1-0. Allegheny’s lone run came in the bottom of the second inning and the pitching staff held them to zero the rest of the way.  With a 1-1 tie in the third, Anderson grounded out but Greg Lynn (Ellwood City, PA, Ellwood City) scored giving the Bobcats the lead and Anderson the RBI.  Pitt-Greensburg then scored a run in each of the last three innings to pick up a few more security runs that weren’t even needed due in part to the strong collective pitching performance.  Two of those runs were brought in on two singles by Anthony Bozzuto (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield), while Pearson recorded his second RBI of the day during that three inning span.  Pearson came to the mound for the last two outs of the game and got two batters to ground to the left side of the infield preserving the 5-1 victory.

This was a big game for Pearson who went 2-4 with two RBIs as well as recording one stolen base.

Enough can’t be said about the pitching performance as whole, as not one single pitcher stood out from the crowd but all five men pitched equally as effective to contribute to this victory.  It should also be noted that Pitt-Greensburg did not commit an error so solid defensive play should not be overlooked.

The Bobcats next contest is against D’Youville College in AMCC play on Saturday, April 20th at 1:00 P.M.
