GREENSBURG, Pa:  After a closely contested and scoreless first half, the Saint Vincent Bearcats capitalized on second half opportunities on their way to a 3-0 victory over Pitt-Greensburg.

It was announced earlier in the week that this cross town rivalry game would be for the newly established Westmoreland Cup Trophy.   Unfortunately for UPG, they will have to wait until next season to claim the trophy.

The game was a defensive battle early on, with SVC outshooting UPG just 4-1 in the first half.  The Bearcats broke through in the 62nd minute when Kevin Proctor took a one time pass from Scott Luthy and beat UPG keeper Brandon Galley, giving SVC a 1-0 lead.  A little over five minutes later, SVC struck again this time it was a goal from Luke D'Amico, extending the lead to 2-0 for the Bearcats.

Christian Trueax followed a shot off the post, and after a controversial no call on a potential hand ball, headed it into the back of the net, brining the score to 3-0 in the 81st minute.

Pitt-Greensburg had multiple scoring opportunities in the second half, with Jerome Williams, Sean Baxendall  (2) and Brady Paterson (2) all registering shots on goal.  However, the Bobcats could not beat SVC goalkeeper Eric Houghton, who played all 90 minutes, making 5 saves.  Bobcat keeper Brandon Galley also played all 90 minutes in goal, registering 7 saves.

SVC earned the edge in shots on the day, 16-13 while Pitt-Greensburg held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.  The loss drops Pitt-Greensburg to 0-7 while Saint Vincent improves to 2-6.

Pitt-Greensburg will be back at home this Saturday (Sep 21) when they host Thiel College at Ridilla Field.  Saturday's game will mark their 4th straight game against a PAC opponent, as well as 5 out of their last 6 opponents.  This time they will host Thiel College at Ridilla Field.  Game time is set for 1pm.
