Men’s soccer wins AMCC opener over D’Youville, 3-0

GREENSBURG, Pa: After a slow start in non-conference action, the Pitt-Greensburg men's soccer team got a 3-0 victory over D'Youville College in the AMCC opener Saturday afternoon at Ridilla Field.
UPG got on the board first when freshman Sean Baxendell scored on a one timer from teammate Santo Defranceso in the 36
th minute. The Bobcats would strike again before halftime when Jeremy Niemiec took a pass from Baxendell and put it past the keeper, putting the Bobcats up 2-0 going into the half.
The Bobcats would not be done as Niemiec scored his second goal of the game, after some smooth ball handling and passing by Baxendell just over a minute into the second half.
UPG got a shutout in goal from keepers Brandon Galley and Alex Guie and dominated the field of play in a chippy contest from start to finish. The Bobcats outshot the Spartans 25-3 while also holding a 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
With the win, Pitt-Greensburg improves to 2-8 overall and 1-0 in AMCC play while D'Youville falls to 0-10 overall and 0-1 in the AMCC.
UPG will next travel to Steubenville, OH to take on the Franciscan Barons in an AMCC contest Tuesday afternoon at 2pm.
