Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats Topple Titans

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa:  The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team emerged from a two week holiday hiatus on Monday afternoon to hand the Titans of Westminster College a 56-40 defeat.  With the win, the Bobcats even their record at 5-5 while Westminster falls to 1-7.

After a hard fought first half that saw eight lead changes, where neither team would lead by more than five points, only two points would separate the teams at the break.  Pitt-Greensburg would take a 27-25 lead into halftime thanks in part to the hot hand of Lyndy Baer (Hollsopple, PA, Conemaugh Township) who finished the first with 10 points on 44% shooting.

The second would begin much like the first, but this half the Bobcats would not relinquish the lead.  The Titans would keep things close up until 11:36 left when two successful free throws by Baer gave UPG a four point, 39-35 advantage and ignited a 19-5 run to close out the contest.  When the final buzzer sounded the Bobcats' run secured the 56-40 final.

Pitt-Greensburg was active on defense creating 24 turnovers and converting those turnovers into 24 points.  They'd also hold advantages in points in the paint (30-16), rebounding (43-36), second chance points (15-6), and bench scoring (26-16).

Baer would lead all scorers on the day with a career-high 18 points on 43% shooting.  Morgan Biddle (Flinton, PA, Glendale) would also finish in double figures after scoring 14.

It's back to conference play next for the Bobcats as Franciscan University travels to Chambers Hall on Wednesday, January 7th for a 6:00pm tip-off.
