Buffalo, NY: The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team opened conference play on Saturday, suffering a 62-59 overtime loss to the Spartans of D'Youville College. The loss drops the Bobcats to 3-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference while D'Youville improves to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
For the second straight game the Bobcats had a tough time getting their shots to fall. On the afternoon, they'd convert just 28% from the floor, 19% from three, and 65% from the free throw line. Despite the tough shooting night the Bobcats would battle in a tightly contested road game and force overtime.
Regulation would not separate the two teams. They'd trade the lead on five occasions with neither team able to stretch the deficit to double digits. They'd also find themselves tied five times throughout the game, none more important than the 54-54 score at the end of the second half. With 1:17 left the Bobcats would trail by four, 52-48, but six straight points by Kayla Dames (Oakdale, PA, Chartiers Valley) to close out the half and a pair of Spartan free throws brought us to the 54-54 deadlock.
Unfortunately for Pitt-Greensburg, the shooting struggles would continue in overtime as they converted just 2-10 of their shots. D'Youville would also struggle from the floor but do the bulk of their damage from foul line, finishing 6-10 of their chances as they pulled away for the 62-59 final.
Pitt-Greensburg had the trio of Morgan Biddle (Flinton, PA, Glendale), Amanda Estok (Monroeville, PA, Gateway), and Dames score in double figures. The Bobcats were led by Estok who scored a team high 16 points. Biddle and Dames would post double double performances with Biddle finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Dames with 10 and 13.
The Bobcats will return home to continue conference play this Wednesday, December 10th when they host Penn State Altoona at 6:00pm in Chamber's Hall.
